I’m going to need y'all to preemptively chill out because the actor’s strike is going to mean a lot of things including shows and movies we’ve been anticipating being pushed way back, and absolutely minimal press tours for the next however long this lasts.
The effects of the writer’s strike are months down the road which made it a whole lot easier to support because as third parties we weren’t really being affected (yet), the effect of the actor’s strike is going to be immediate and we’re going to get a lot more propaganda of “these people are overpaid to begin with.”
Remember our desire for content does not supersede these people’s rights to live.
Support unions, support the strikes.
A very gentle reminder to everyone worried about needing new content: strikes are a great time to catch up on old stuff you haven’t seen yet.
check out that anime you never got around to. watch those classic movies you haven’t looked at. dig out your childhood favorites that you can’t remember anymore. find the stuff you always wanted to watch as a kid but your parents wouldn’t let you. Watch that show you’re afraid to start because it’s so long; you’ve got the time now. host B Movie Night and see which of your friends can find the worst one. Remind yourself what effects looked like when computers were clunky and expensive. Find what it is your parents loved in those ‘boring’ flicks. Give your friend’s thing they never shut up about a try. Hell, watch some old reality TV and see what evolved out of the last strike.
The same applies to gaming, too: how many of you have actually sat down and played the original DOOM? what’s a game you ALWAYS wanted as a kid but never got?
It’s very easy to be chill about not getting a new thing for a while when you fill in the gap. It doesn’t have to be a new release to be good. It doesn’t even have to be a recognizable IP. Take some time to really appreciate all that these people have done for you, all they have given us over the years.
now take that knowledge, and remember that the people making the most money off of that work want to treat them as machines and don’t care if they live or die.
let that radicalize you against the propaganda.
